The Challenge

Increased Complexity

Policy files are more complex, intergovernmental overlap is constant, expectations are higher, and polarization and incivility are now part of the job.

Burnout and early exits

Many elected officials are stepping away not because they lack skill, passion, or commitment, but because the job had become increasingly unsustainable without support.

Heightened public scrutiny

Social media, 24/7 news cycles, harassment, and abuse have made public life more demanding — and have actively discouraged good people from running.

Isolation in office

Once elected, there are fewer safe spaces to ask questions, pressure-test decisions, or have honest conversations with people who understand the role.

Mentorship Provides

Trusted, confidential guidance

Perspective from people who have “been there”

Connection & community in an otherwise isolating role

A First-of-Its-Kind Mentorship Platform

Nominee is launching Canada’s first national political mentorship platform offering unlimited, on-demand access to experienced elected officials and campaign veterans — designed specifically for people in public office and those preparing to run.

This isn’t a traditional one-to-one matching program.

It’s a flexible, modern mentorship system that recognizes that political careers evolve — and so do the kinds of support people need.

How the Platform Works

A National Mentor Directory

Members can browse a growing directory of vetted mentors from across Canada and search or filter by:

  • Geography (province, region, municipality type)

  • Level of government (municipal, provincial, federal)

  • Party affiliation or nonpartisan experience

  • Policy expertise (housing, finance, transit, governance, etc.)

  • Identity, lived experience, and leadership background

Members choose who they want to learn from — no matching, no gatekeeping.

Unlimited 1-on-1 Sessions

Once you find a mentor, you can:

  • View their profile and experience

  • Add them as a connection

  • Direct message them

  • Book a session directly from their calendar

Sessions are hosted online via Google Meet and available in increments of:

  • 15 minutes

  • 30 minutes

  • 60 minutes

Members can take notes during sessions to capture insights and next steps.

All sessions are unlimited and included in a Nominee subscription.

“Ask Anything” Forum

The platform also includes an Ask Anything forum, similar to Quora or Reddit — but exclusively for elected officials and candidates.

Members can:

  • Submit questions publicly or anonymously

  • Receive responses from multiple experienced mentors

  • Learn not just from their own questions, but from others navigating similar challenges

It’s a low-barrier way to access collective wisdom without fear of judgment.

One central dashboard

Members manage everything in one place:

  • Past and upcoming sessions

  • Scheduling, cancellations, and rescheduling

  • Mentor availability

  • Direct messages

  • Personal notes and reflections

Why This Model Works

Traditional mentorship often assumes:

  • One mentor

  • Early stage career

  • One set of need

Nominee’s approach encourages multiple mentors over time, depending on the challenge:

  • Campaign strategy while running

  • Transition support once elected

  • Policy-specific advice mid-term

  • Perspective and support during moments of conflict or burnout

This creates a 360-degree support system that evolves with you and amplifies impact over the long term.

Why Experienced Elected Officials Need Mentorship Too

Mentorship isn’t just about learning how to start, it’s about sustaining your impact over time:

  • Navigating complex or contentious local issues

  • Learning from other municipalities’ successes and failures

  • Pressure-testing decisions in a confidential setting

  • Reducing isolation and reconnecting with purpose

Whether you’re in your first term or your sixth, that perspective and connection matters.

Who are the Mentors?

Our focus is on diversity of:

  • Geography (every province and territory)

  • Level of government

  • Political affiliation and non-partisan experience

  • Gender, identity, and lived experience
